Amanda J. Morris, PhD

University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler

Amanda Morris, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. She previously served as a Research Associate and Postdoctoral Fellow at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Dr. Morris’s research focuses on biofilm formation and antimicrobial resistance in pulmonary infections, with a particular emphasis on cystic fibrosis (CF).
Her current work combines in vitro biofilm modeling using clinical isolates with ex vivo visualization of CF pathogens—including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM)—to study their spatial organization and polymicrobial interactions within patient sputum. Through this work, she aims to better understand how microbial interactions and airway microenvironments contribute to biofilm-associated antimicrobial tolerance in both new-onset and chronic infections.
