Maria “Sukie” Rayas, MD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes at the University of Texas Health San Antonio (UTSA) in San Antonio, Texas. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Washington and Lee University and completed her medical school, residency, and fellowship training at UTSA. She is the endocrinologist dedicated to caring for the pediatric and adult patients with cystic fibrosis (CF)-endocrine disorders at her institution. She is a clinician-scientist with research efforts devoted to exploring factors that contribute to CF-related diabetes such as liver disease, race/ethnicity, and social determinants of health. Her career development has been supported through the CF Foundation (CFF) via the ENVISION grant, Harry Shwachman Award and currently through the Clinical Research Scholars Program. She is one of the main investigators of SPECTRUM, a CFF-funded multicenter study that aims to evaluate CF-related diabetes complications in a diverse CF cohort.
