Matthias Salathe is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) and serves as the Senior Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Kansas, where he oversees and advances the institution’s research mission across basic, translational, and clinical sciences. He leads multiple interdisciplinary research programs focused on understanding airway biology and pathogen detection in cystic fibrosis (CF) in the era of highly effective CFTR modulators, as well as on the discovery and development of novel small‑molecule therapies for individuals with CF who do not benefit from current modulator treatments. He maintains an active clinical practice in cystic fibrosis and non‑CF bronchiectasis and directs a basic–translational science laboratory integrating mechanistic discovery with therapeutic development. He serves as principal investigator on several clinical proof‑of‑concept trials aimed at addressing unmet needs in CF and related airway diseases. He has contributed to the CF community through service on the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Center Committee and through reviews of grants for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.
