Sonia Graziano is a Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist. She works at the Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital in Rome in the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Unit and in the Pneumology and Cystic Fibrosis Unit. She completed her education at Sapienza University of Rome with honors. Since 2019, she has been a member of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Mental Health Advisory Committee (USA). She also served as Co-Chair of the European Cystic Fibrosis Society (ECFS) Mental Health Working Group from 2022 to 2025. Her primary research and clinical interests focus on trauma and the psychosocial challenges associated with managing chronic illness. Her research addresses depression, anxiety, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF) and their caregivers. She was recently funded by the Italian CF Research Foundation to conduct TIDES 2.0 at 11 CF Centers in Italy.
Her clinical practice includes psychological support for patients and their families, psychoeducational interventions to improve treatment adherence, and psychotherapy. In 2019, she completed the CF-CBT training program at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She is also an expert in trauma-informed care and was Co-Founder of the Italian National Trauma Center (INTC). In 2007, she attended the Department of Psychiatry in Traumatic Stress Service University of Western Ontario. She completed the Mastery in Global Mental Health: Trauma and Recovery Certificate Program at Harvard Medical School in 2009 and, from 2011 to 2013, was a research fellow in the Harvard/MGH Trauma Program. Following the major earthquakes in Italy in 2010 and 2016, she coordinated the training of primary care physicians in trauma-informed care.
