Gabriela Oates, PhD is Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She is the Director of the UAB Center for the Study of Community Health, Director for Population Health Sciences of the UAB Lung Health Center, and Founding Director of the UAB Institutional Reserach Core on Social Determinants of Health (SDH). Dr. Oates is a social epidemiologist with expertise in the application of SDH measures and tools for health services, outcomes, and population health research. She leads multilevel interventions on social risk factors and interventions that support chronic disease management. Her work is funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, among others.
