Federica Briani, PhD

University of Milan

Dr. Federica Briani is Full Professor of Microbiology at the University of Milan, Department of Biosciences, where she leads a research group in molecular microbiology. Her work focuses on the development of innovative antibacterial strategies, particularly against Pseudomonas aeruginosa in cystic fibrosis. She has made significant contributions to the study of phage biology and their application to phage therapy, bacterial RNA metabolism, and the function of polynucleotide phosphorylase (PNPase). She has authored more than 50 international publications, coordinated research projects funded by Telethon and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and collaborates with several national and international research groups. She is also actively involved in teaching, PhD supervision, and scientific societies, serving on the board of the Italian Society for General Microbiology and Microbial Biotechnologies (SIMGBM).
