Deborah Friedman, PhD

Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School

Dr. Deborah Friedman is a clinical psychologist in the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Department of Psychiatry, Associate Professor of Psychology (Psychiatry) at Harvard Medical School, and co-director of the MGH Pediatric Behavioral Medicine Program. She has been a member of the MGH Pediatric and Adult CF Programs’ interdisciplinary team, providing direct clinical care to people with CF, for over 10 years. Her clinical research focuses on developing telehealth and digital health interventions that can be integrated into interdisciplinary team-based care to improve mental health and quality of life for people with CF. In partnership with the CF community and research collaborators nationally and internationally, her team developed CF-CBT, an 8-session mental health program for adults with CF currently being implemented across U.S. and Canadian CF centers, eHealth CF-CBT, a digital health intevention being implemented in the Netherlands (Verkleij, PI), and CF-CBT-A, a program for teens with CF and their caregivers. Along with Dr. Amanda Bruce, she has also worked to engage input from the CF community in the development and pilot of the first CF-specific mind-body intervention for pain management (PACE CF).
